Let\\'s get social!

You Have a Website? Great! But That’s Not Enough.

March 14, 2013

According to Social Media Today, 90% of all purchases begin on the internet, 78% trust online opinion and since 2010, searches on mobile devices have increased by 400%. That’s incredible! So basically, if you’re a small business owner, developing your online presence is absolutely crucial. The more online presence you have, the more likely your company will develop a trusting customer base – and if you’re thinking just a website will do the trick, think again!

Think of your website as an employee – an idea adopted by an article on Social Media Today. No, you’re not consistently paying for that employee to be there, but your website is working in a way that offers 24/7 support and information. Just like an employee, your website has responsibilities, deadlines and efforts to maintain the success of the company. You always want to have the conversation evolve and serve a purpose to meet the needs of your customer – and that’s why it’s imperative to develop your website and include your social media! As far as customer reviews are concerned, it’s pretty standard that they will have the opportunity to write something about your company, especially since they have access to your website. But you can’t be afraid of bad reviews! You always want to be able to offer a foundation from which that good feedback is originated.

It’s also always a good thing to put yourself in the mindset of the customer. What will make them happy? What will they actually spend their hard earned money to buy? What do they really want from you? These questions are crucial! They want to know what you can do for them. Can you blame them? Your time is precious and so is theirs – use it wisely!

Many believe that psychological triggers can increase social activity on your website. Robert Cialdini, author of “Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion” explains the psychology of why people make certain decisions. As briefly touched upon in the previous post, customers want to establish a connection if they are investing time and money in the services of a business. You want to keep them loyal and maintain your end of the bargain by always being responsive, attentive and approachable. This information is available through resources, articles, links and more, that should be available on your website!

As stated on Social Media Today, you should always be likable without compromising your standards, show yourself as an authority figure in your area of business and always reciprocate by encouraging and allowing for a positive social connection. And most importantly, don’t be afraid to take intelligent risks. Yes, I said intelligent. You will never prosper without taking chances so do your research and act appropriately!
