TGIThursday, right guys? This week has been full of a lot of writing over here at ATMP (but we balanced it out by listening to some great new music, like this track by Long Island’s NGHBRS), and what goes hand-in-hand with writing for a blog? Finding or designing awesome images to go alongside your carefully crafted words. But where to find images for a blog post? Don’t get caught up in bad copyright situations. Start with these 3 spots:
Stock.xchng is a great place to look for free images for your blog posts. You can find free stock photos, which you can then work with to add another dimension to your posts. With this site, as well as the others, make sure you check the restrictions of each photo. They are not all the same. These restrictions are found in the “Availability” section, which can be found below the photograph.
Now, be careful with this one. I do NOT mean typing your search term into Google and just clicking on “Images” and downloading photos to your heart’s content. It takes a couple more clicks to get there. Go into Advanced Search and scroll down to the bottom. Make sure you change the “usage rights” selection to “not filtered by license” (as shown below).
Sometimes, we can search and search and SEARCH for the “right” image to go along with our blog posts, and nothing really feels right. When that happens, take to your own creativity and make your own image! You can make something that is simple and looks good all on your own. This is easily done by using either a more advanced software like Photoshop, or you can go online and use a free site like PicMonkey or Pixlr. Not sure what to make your image of? Start with just a solid color for a background and a nice looking font with a word you think encapsulates your blog post. You’ll get the hang of it quickly, and will be able to start experimenting in no time!
There you go! Three ways to find images for a blog post right now. A bonus tip today was given to us from Brooke over at B Squared Media (during the SSC #collectivechat on this topic), and she recommends making a Bookmark Folder in your browser of all the links you have to find great images that you are free to use on your blog!
Where else do you find images for a blog post? Tell me in the comments below, and I might do a follow-up post with more great ideas!
P.S. Taking a break from looking for images? Check out that NGHBRS track I mentioned!
