Three Tip Thursday: How Should I Schedule Social Media Posts?

April 4, 2013

It’s Thursday once again, and that means three more tips! The ability to schedule social media posts is very important to get have when managing your company’s accounts. Posting at optimal times is part of what it takes to engage with your community, but you don’t need to be available at every single one of those times. By scheduling social media posts, you can publish your content at those optimal times, but be focused on other work that needs to be done.

How Should I Schedule Social Media Posts?

  1. Determine your optimal posting times. Go back and look at where and when your audience is most engaged. You can do Google searches and see what times are “best” for each social network, but it’s really much more effective to look at your specific audience. Take note of these prime times, and check back on them regularly!
  2. Our service of choice for scheduling is Hootsuite. You can schedule posts for a multitude of platforms, either at your determined days/times or by using the “Autoschedule” function. Autoschedule determines sharing times itself, so this tool is best used for general content, and not anything you’d like to go out on a particular day, or time of day.
  3. Use an editorial calendar. You’ve probably read this tip over and over, but it really does help! Make an overview for monthly themes for the rest of the year. You can make them general, but it will help give you a starting point when you are looking for quality content to share. When scheduling posts in advance, it helps to find timeless content, so that you always have something to share!
